We are featuring the website of the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club. This ia a modular model railroad club located in Groton/New London area of southeastern Connecticut. First established in 1980 and incorporated in 1987, the club currently runs several layouts in HO, N, G, and O scale. They spend a great deal of time creating and displaying their layouts at various model railroad shows throughout the year.
A group of members also constructed an On30 layout which was added to lineup at the Big Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield in 2004.
They feature many how-to clinics as well as features written by their members on a wide range of railroad topics. Tips on track laying, scratchbuilding, and train operations can be found on the website. The club also has time to organize rail fan trips to visit other clubs and prototype railroads.
The club has produced several of their own “club cars” in limited production runs, including box cars, gondolas, as well as box cars, gondolas and hoppers in other road names such as New Haven and Connecticut Central.
Here is an example of a 40' box car which the club produced.
The website of the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club is one of the best you will find!
March 2007

We are featuring the website of the Smith River Railroad . This is a sectional freelance railroad based upon the shortlines found in New England in the 1950s. Paul Turner of Ocala, Florida constructed this On30 layout beginning in July of 2000 after first starting out building an HO layout.

You will find many interesting features at the Smith River Railroad website including a detailed track plan, construction photos as well as tips and suggestions that Paul Turner has developed during his model railroad journey building the Smith River Railroad. Paul's website is an excellent example of a "simple but elegant" site that is a pleasure to look at and provides interesting information.

I recommend a visit to Paul Turner's Smith River Railroad website and if you are considering developing your own website, I could not think of a better example to learn from.
