DCC Decoder Test System

DCC Track Protocol Analyzer  (Zip file) (Track Protocol Analyzer• requires additional hardware)

Overview

The Conformance and Inspection Team has developed several test devices for the purposes of assisting both the manufacturers and the C&I Group in performing our tests. Please note that these tools are only aids. The NMRA Standards and Recommended Practices define the requirements, the results of these tools are but one factor in the testing process.

Decoder System Test Information

The NMRA developed the DCC Decoder Test Board and accompanying software (referred to below as the DCC Decoder Test System) as part of it's Conformance testing process for DCC Decoders. The DCC Decoder Test System is one component of the NMRA's overall DCC Decoder testing process. It is used to test a mobile or accessory DCC decoder, and when properly used, it verifies that the decoder meets the baseline NMRA DCC standards S-9.1.1 and S-9.2. Confirming proper use of Configuration Variables per S-9.2.2 is another part of the process.

The earlier V1 and V2 Decoder Test Systems were designed to work with an IBM compatible PC or with an ISA expansion slot for the decoder test board.
The current V3 system is self-contained and interfaces to a Windows, Mac, or Linux PC using a USB interface. Instructions for setting up and using the V3 system is in TN-9.1.3 below:

  • New SENDER V4 Test Scripts (Not yet available)
